SMD does not describe the fault

SMD refers to surface-mounted components. Requesting a replacement does not prove that the selected part caused the fault. Describe the symptoms, previous repair attempts and the specific work requested. Random component replacement may leave the original problem unresolved.

Agree acceptance before travelling

For boards from other equipment, Kmvle, MB requires a removed board and a donor board. We do not accept these jobs without a donor. Send photographs and markings from both boards first. Visual similarity alone does not establish component or revision compatibility.

Take useful photographs

Include both sides, readable model or revision markings and a close view of the affected area. Mark the component on a copy of the photograph, not on electrical contacts. Mention liquid exposure, previous heating, damaged tracks or earlier soldering.

Package the board carefully

Use suitable anti-static packaging and protection against impacts. Avoid pressure on tall components and keep loose screws separate. Handle the edges carefully. Do not dismantle power supplies or other high-voltage equipment without appropriate expertise; arrange removal by a qualified specialist.

Agree the limits of testing

Discuss the component, board condition, donor and available tests before work begins. A removed board cannot always be fully tested without the complete device. Completing a soldering operation does not guarantee that every system fault will be resolved. Scope and price are agreed before starting.

Practical checklist

  • Send markings from both boards.
  • Arrange a removed board and a donor.
  • Protect against static and mechanical damage.
