Identify the exact model
Find the computer model and manufacturer-approved adapter specification. Barrel connectors require matching dimensions, voltage, polarity and any identification contacts. Do not use a random adapter simply because its plug fits.
Wattage is not the only specification
An underpowered adapter may charge slowly or fail to sustain operation under load. Higher rated wattage alone does not establish compatibility: all manufacturer requirements still apply. Gaming laptops often need more power than lightweight office models. Check the specific model rather than relying on brand alone.
Check USB-C power support
Not every USB-C port can charge a laptop. The computer, charger and cable must support the required power modes. A phone charger may be insufficient. Check the manufacturer's USB Power Delivery requirements and the cable's supported power rating.
When the adapter is not the cause
If a known compatible adapter does not help, the connector, battery or power circuitry may need testing. Stop using an adapter that is damaged, sparking or smells burnt. Bring both the laptop and its charger for diagnosis so they can be checked together.
