What counts as a cycle?
A cycle is not every occasion you plug in a charger. Partial discharges can add up to a full cycle. Frequent short charging sessions therefore do not automatically indicate heavy wear. The battery controller provides the cycle data reported by the computer.
Why the number is not enough
Compare design capacity with current full-charge capacity. Age, heat and long periods stored fully charged also affect wear. Two batteries with identical cycle counts can deliver very different runtimes. Watch the trend over time instead of relying on a single reading.
What to observe in use
Note whether the percentage falls steadily and whether the laptop shuts down while charge remains. Compare sessions with similar screen brightness and applications. Gaming cannot be compared directly with reading documents: power consumption differs substantially even when the battery is healthy.
When to arrange a check
Swelling, a raised case or unusual heat are reasons to stop using the laptop and seek service. If runtime alone has shortened, checks can separate battery wear from software workload. A replacement must match the exact battery code, construction and compatibility requirements.
