Asleep or simply no picture?
Check the power indicator, connect a suitable charger and briefly press the power button. Select the correct input on an external monitor. Fan noise does not prove Windows is fully responsive. Note whether the issue follows closing the lid or automatic sleep.
Forced shutdown is a last resort
An unresponsive system may require a forced shutdown, but unsaved work can be lost. Never interrupt a BIOS or firmware update this way. Avoid repeated power cycling. Once the computer responds, save important files first.
Compare updates and accessories
Temporarily disconnect the dock and unnecessary USB devices. Manufacturer graphics and chipset drivers can affect power management. Only consider a BIOS update using the exact model instructions and a relevant reason, rather than treating it as a universal first fix.
When diagnosis is useful
Repeated failures require separating display, power and Windows issues. Note whether the problem began after an update and whether a cold start works normally. Diagnosis helps choose a targeted repair instead of immediately reinstalling the system.
