Check the privacy shutter
Some laptops have a mechanical shutter or a camera-disable key. Consult your model's instructions. Avoid thick adhesive covers that could press against the screen when the lid closes. For an external camera, check its USB connection.
Review system and browser permissions
Check camera access in privacy settings. A browser website also needs its own permission. On a work computer, an administrator may restrict access; do not bypass these policies. Reopen the application after changing permissions.
Compare applications
Open the system camera app and compare it with your meeting app. Select the correct camera if more than one is connected. Close other applications using the camera. If one app works, investigate the other app's settings first.
When hardware checks help
A camera missing in several applications may need manufacturer drivers or diagnosis. After impact, liquid damage or screen repair, the cable and module may need inspection. Avoid removing the display bezel yourself: small clips and wiring are easily damaged.
