Similar names describe different actions
Classic System Restore returns system state to an earlier saved point. Reset this PC is a different process. Read the exact description of the selected function; the word “recovery” does not explain what will remain.
Consider the change date
If a driver or application triggered the problem, check whether a suitable earlier point exists. Returning to it can affect subsequently installed components. Record important application and licence information beforehand.
A file backup is still needed
A system-file recovery feature does not replace document backup. Keeping personal files is not the same as retaining every application. If an option explicitly removes everything, do not proceed without a verified copy.
Choose according to the fault
A restore point cannot repair physical storage or RAM failure. Errors across unrelated tasks may require hardware diagnosis. Agree on the required outcome with the service centre before selecting the procedure.
