One percentage does not describe the whole drive
Manufacturers and utilities interpret readings differently. Estimated remaining endurance is not a promise against failure tomorrow. The exact model, utility version and data actually available all matter.
Watch changes rather than colours
New errors, temperature behaviour and repeated disconnects matter more than a green box. Save a report and compare over time. A USB adapter may not pass through every diagnostic value.
Match testing to the risk
If the drive disconnects or struggles to read files, do not run endless speed benchmarks. Assess the backup first. Performance also depends on free space, temperature and concurrent work.
When is replacement sensible?
Error patterns, stability and data importance guide the decision, not one number. Diagnose the drive alongside its connection and computer. Even a new SSD needs backups because no health indicator replaces file protection.
